Iodine is known for leaving behind tough, lingering stains. Whether it’s Betadine spillage or routine skin preparation, iodine can easily mark flooring surfaces like vinyl, marble, tile, and concrete.
In this blog, we’ll explore what iodine is, where these stains commonly appear, and most importantly, how to effectively remove them using the right products and techniques.
What is Iodine?
Iodine is a trace element that is naturally present in some foods and is also used as an antiseptic. Iodine can be used as an antiseptic on wounds that are wet or to disinfect the skin before surgery.
Where do you find Iodine Stains?
As iodine is a dye, it will stain most surfaces, even the skin. The most common iodine stains are caused by the spillage of Betadine or iodine skin wiping before surgery or when treating a wound. The most common location of iodine stains is in facilities in health care, day surgeries and veterinaries. These facilities generally have vinyl flooring, and the stain will be difficult to remove with general cleaning chemicals.
How to Remove Iodine Stains From Different Types of Flooring?
Before removing iodine stains, you need to first identify what the stained material is. If the surface that is stained is vinyl, marble, tile, concrete, or natural stone then this is the perfect guide for you! It shows how to remove the different types of iodine stains on different types of flooring, using our range of products.
Types of Flooring:
Stain Treatment Guide for Vinyl and Marble Floors
If you have a stain treatment on your floor, then follow the below guide to effectively remove it:
1. Mix 30g Actichem Oxyboost Plus 4.5kg Each (one scoop) in with 1 litre of HOT tap water and stir until the solution is fully dissolved and use the treatment for 20 minutes.
2. Next apply the solution to the floor carefully spreading and agitating the flooring with a non-scratch scourer.
3. Allow the solution to sit on the stained floor for 15 to 30 minutes.
4. Once you let the solution sit, get a cloth/rag and wipe it clean with water.
Severe Stain Treatment Guide for Vinyl and Marble Floors
If your iodine stain is more severe than a standard stain, then follow this guide for removing it:
1. Sprinkle a generous amount of Actichem Oxyboost Plus 4.5kg Each directly onto the floor and add a tiny amount of HOT tap water to it.
2. Scrub thoroughly with a non-scratch pad, to mix the water and Oxyboost to create a thin paste on the floor.
3. Allow the solution to sit on the stain for 15 to 30 minutes.
4. Once you let the solution sit, get a cloth/rag and wipe it clean with water.
5. Repeat if necessary if the stain doesn’t remove the first time round.
